This book lets us follow Ishmael through his 20s, where he becomes a barrister (lawyer) in the country's capital, goes to Europe to save his lost love, loses said love for the women and finds himself in love for the second time with someone he always loved but didn't know it. All characters from the first book are present, from his aunt to his old "Professor" to his real father.
TLC BOOKS likes this book a little more than "Ishmael". There is more adventure and action in this than in the first book. There are also more pages devoted to other characters and their stories. A great read, but not a "light" read in the slightest.
The ending of this tale is fantastic. It is difficult to summarize this story without spoilers, so I won't. I will just conclude with this: this is one of those books that makes you a better person for having read it, not least because of the virtue of its hero.
Mrs. E.D.E.N. Southworth is an author worth reading! Ishmael and Self Raised are a two part series...making one complete story. A story that will impact your life....yes, a life changing series!
