Swimming with Barracudas is a tale of relationship of 2 co-workers, who become best friends and even grow to love each other, while still remaining strictly friends. My best description is they love each other like family, while not actually being in love. It is a story of how their friendship survives even with people in the work place trying to sabotage their friendship out of spite and jealousy.
It also delves into work place dynamics, especially those between women, and men and women in the work place. So it is something that a lot of people can identify with.
But I think it is different from typical romance novels in that it is romantic comedy which I think can appeal to both men and women. There is a lot of humor for the male audience, but romance to appeal to the female audience.

synopsis:The main character, Mary O'Connor, is fresh out of college and joins a large multinational corporation called Pacific Pallisades Enterprises. She is hired for the secretarial pool which is run by Pricilla Martin, a draconian headmistress-type from Europe who is the terror of the company. Mary befriends a gofer named Michael who helps her with her various tasks in the company. A very strong friendship/romance develops between them. Mary's talents catch the eye of upper management and she begins to be given more responsibilities and is in line for promotions. This incurs the wrath of the members of her secretarial peers and so-called best friends who engage in a campaign to ruin Mary's professional and social life, including her relationship with her best friend Michael. Mary has many Ally McBeal-ish humorous thoughts and witty responses to the events that occur to her. Along the way Michael and Mary share many humorous and touching moments as their friendship grows.
If you enjoyed First Dates, Never Been Kissed, Whip It, and He's Just Not That Into You, you will love Swimming with Barracudas. Swimming with Barracudasis a romantic comedy along the lines of these productions.
