HOME OF THE GENTRY (or HOUSE OF GENTLEFOLK) follows the life Fyodor Ivanych Lavretsky, a wealthy Russian raised by a cruel aunt. After marrying a beautiful woman at university and moving Paris, Fyodor is shocked to discover her infidelity. He breaks things off, returning to Russia and falls in love with another woman, only to find his problems are just beginning.
