Malaika: Dreams of Freedom

Malaika: Dreams of Freedom is about a young African woman, Malaika, who dreams of going to America in search of free from her current situation. As a baby, she was dropped off at the doorstep of a missionary home by her mother and raised in the cruelest of environments. When she finally runs away from the orphanage, she finds herself at the mercy of a pimp. Fallen into a vicious cycle, she feels nothing like what her name indicates- an angel.

Derek, an American actor, has all the material things a person can desire, but lacks peace and love. Coming from a home where his father overdosed on drugs leaving his mother devastated and lonely, he feels it’s his duty to protect her. Not trusting anyone he knows, he sets to Africa to find a companion for his mother.

The beauty of the story is, although they come from two very difference worlds, the need for love and acceptance is the same. As they take a seeming impossible journey together, they discover true love has no boundaries. For the first time in their lives, it becomes very clear that not only are they loved by God, but He has a wonderful plan for both their lives.
