Has the doorway to the kingdom of Ellinsforth closed forever?

When eleven year-old Henry Cleary is pushed onto the cobblestones of a fire-ravaged street, he discovers a rare token glimmering through the darkness. Believing that the golden coin would feed his starving family for months, Henry takes it home expecting a hero's welcome. Though his parents agree that the coin must be valuable, they instruct Henry to return it to the abandoned street in hopes that the owner would find it.
While returning the coin, Henry discovers a mysterious door emerging from the ground and planting itself in the brick wall beside him. He also encounters the coin's owner, Edward, a lost prince who has spent the last fifteen years trying to find his way home through similar doorways which appear throughout the city. Having neared utter discouragement and despair, Edward offers Henry all of the gold he will ever need if he can help him unravel the doorways' secrets and unlock the door to his kingdom in Ellinsforth.
