Towards the Sun

Even before the wheels of the jet touched down on the runway at LAX, I knew it was too late to turn back. Something much greater than my desire alone was drawing me inexorably forward, just as it had led me westward, towards a destiny I knew was mine to claim. Would I be like Icarus and fly too close to the sun? Would its seductive brightness blind me to what was real, or would it suffuse me with a warmth and brilliance that was truer than anything I had ever known? The movie star and the soccer mom.
