I describe this book as a romance action-adventure. A must read story for all ages.
The Singer and the Seal, mainly centers on JAVIER ALEXANDER LYONS (the Navy SEAL) and YVONNE DE LA QUESTA (The Singer) who have been best friends since Javier was in the fifth grade and she in the fourth grade. When his family moves, they “communicate less and less”, and start families with other partners whom subsequently die. A reunion of sorts occurs when Yvonne, who sings as “Vonnie Quest”, and Javier board the FunNSun cruise ship and become immersed in a web of intrigue, with potentially wide-reaching implications.
At age twenty-two, Javier’s parents and much older sister, along with his brother-in-law, are killed during an attempted bank robbery, and his niece, Julie, goes to live with Javier and Maryland (Javier’s wife at the time) who subsequently have twins. An apparent car accident leaves him alone to care for them and he hires help to raise the twins, and his niece, so he can continue his career in the Navy. Showing a degree of concern that Javier has been picking all the most difficult and suicidal missions since Maryland died, George (his commanding officer) offers a leave on a fifteen day cruise. Meanwhile, Al-Qaeda operative Achmed Kumar devises a plan for his younger brother, Salim Kumar and three other associates, to board the ship as regular passengers using fake documents. In addition, they have a fishing vessel fake a distress signal while at sea in order to board the FunNSun with additional Al-Qaeda members and weapons.
On board the ship, Julie indicates a new song from Vonnie Quest on the ship’s radio and Javier wonders if she may be Yvonne. The girl he felt he should have married. When their paths finally cross, Yvonne and Javier look intently at each other with disbelief and astonishment. Yvonne expresses a measure of surprise when Javier confides his feeling and she says “I was in love with you too.” As the story progresses, they navigate a range of challenges and begin to attract media attention. Later, a “siege at sea” starts to unfold and Javier’s training becomes very useful. In the concluding pages of, The Singer and the SEAL, Javier and the others devise a strategy and things become rather personal as he determines to rescue the hostages.
