SELF EVIDENT is a study of Conservatism in America, as well as the alternatives that have developed in the days since our Nation’s Birth. In these pages, we’ll be discussing the Principles of Conservatism, the Characteristics of Progressivism, the Fundamentals of Capitalism, and the Evolution of our Nation. It’s a “From the Hip” look at our Nation’s History and Politics, and WHY they are WHAT they are today! It’s about understanding that “All Men are Created Equal, that we all share the same Rights and Responsibilities, and that we must remain true to our Principles if we are ever to achieve the Peace and Prosperity that our Founders intended. It’s about ignoring the color of our skin, but demanding Content in our Character. If you are ready to truly understand what it means to be a Conservative, then SELF EVIDENT is the book for you!
“WHO IS THIS GUY AND WHY SHOULD I BUY THIS BOOK?”
It’s a fair question. So let me start by introducing myself. My name is T. Edwin Perry, and I am a Conservative. If that sounds like something that you’d hear at a “Twelve Step Program” meeting, you’re on the right track. It seems like the “Mainstream” Media and just about everyone I know is either ashamed of being a Conservative, or enjoys bashing Conservatives. There doesn’t seem to be much of a middle ground.
The truth, however, is that there’s nothing to be ashamed of, and there are very few REAL differences between Conservatives, Libertarians and Liberals. (Progressives, on the other hand…well, we’ll be talking about them later on.) Most of us want the same things. We want to be Free to make our own choices. We want to be able to earn money at our jobs, pay our bills and still have something left over at the end of the day. We want to raise our children to achieve success in their own lives. We want to be free to Pursue Happiness in our Business and Private Lives. We want to be Free to practice whatever Beliefs we choose, and not have the Government tell us that we’re wrong to do it. And, most importantly, we want those around us to have those same freedoms. Not more, not less: THE SAME.
Let me put it to you straight: I do not have a degree in Political Science. I have no political ambitions for myself. I’m not a “shill” for the Republicans, or the Democrats, or the Libertarians, or any other political group. I am, pure and simple, a Conservative, and I know what that means for ME!
This book is intended to achieve three things: First, to help to define for you WHAT it means to be a Conservative; Second, to help to explain HOW Conservatism is the right choice for you; and, Third, to try and answer WHY our Country is in such trouble today, and how to fix it. This book is chock full of perspective, history, opinions, and arguments that you may not find anywhere else. It is a culmination of the things that I have learned, and the things that I am still learning. This book does not have all the answers. It’s not a textbook. If you read something in here that makes you say, “Wow, I didn’t know that before,” then take the time to look it up for yourself. One of Ronald Reagan’s favorite sayings was “Trust, but Verify.” I’m not asking you to trust me; I’m asking you VERIFY what I’m saying for yourself.
Our Nation is in grave danger of losing the very Fabric of Freedom that has made it great, and I’m not talking about the flag. There are those in power who are unraveling everything that our Nation’s Founders created, and everything that our ancestors came to this land to achieve. If we don’t stop this trend soon, there may not be a United States left to defend, but we cannot simply turn the wheel and hope to head in the right direction. We need a plan. We need to know where we are going. We need to UNDERSTAND what we really believe.
If you want to open your mind to the idea of being a Conservative, or if you have always considered yourself a Conservative and you’re distressed by what you’ve seen in politics lately, THIS is the book for you. Like you, I say it the way I see it. You don’t have to agree with me, but I think you probably will.
