Toes in the Kitchen

I was just your average fifty year old woman living a busy life with family and friends until one day I was arrested. I had never been in trouble in my life. I fought long and hard but realized sometimes the truth doesn't matter. This led me down a path in life I never expected. Many times I felt as if my identity, and life as I knew it, was being stripped away. Some friends stood by me while others turned their backs, but something incredible happened. I woke up to a new life. I entered and touched the lives of people I knew existed only from watching the evening news. I watched women come to grips with their lives and try to make changes. My own heart and spirit came alive as I made changes in my own life. It all came about because one inmate recognized she had her toes in the kitchen.
