On Sable Island in the 1860's, Illustrated

Sable Island is today an environmentally fragile, protected island. During the 19th century it was a true hazard to navigation. Over time there have been more than 300 shipwrecks on the island, and during the 19th century was home to a band of men dedicated to lifesaving. This is the story of a visit to the island in the mid nineteenth century.
