Army Regulation AR 600-8-1 Army Casualty Program April 2007

This regulation prescribes the policies and mandated operating tasks, responsibilities, and procedures for casualty operations functions of the military personnel system. The casualty operations functions include casualty reporting, notification, assistance, and fatal accident family brief program.

This consolidated regulation prescribes policies and mandated tasks governing U.S. Army casualty operations, to include casualty reporting, casualty notification, and casualty assistance. It provides policy guidance and information to Soldiers who have been designated to perform the duties of a casualty notification officer or casualty assistance officer.

Also, this regulation provides policies and information pertaining to casualty related documentation, specifically the DD Form 93 (Record of Emergency Data), Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance, and other life insurance programs administered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
