Neo-Salafism: Rashid Rida and the Wahhabification of Salafism in the 20th Century

This text explores the origins of the marriage between Salafism and Wahhabism. Today the terms are used interchangeably, but it was not always so. Originally Salafism was a more or less progressive movement. Within a short time, however, it was hijacked by Rashī‎d Riḍā, a notorious supporter of Wahhabism and the Sa`udi royal family.
