Wave Song Circle, a cul-de-sac beside the Atlantic Ocean, is a wonderful street in a beautiful location. Yet all is not particularly lovely inside every home, as we discover from Mabel and Marvin Elroy, the delightful and amusing elderly "gatekeepers" of the little street. With their warm and compassionate assistance, we peek inside the lives of the residents as they face challenges and adversities in their quest for love, peace, fulfillment, strength, and understanding.
Over the course of eight summers, two children, who meet as playmates, discover the delight and turmoil of first love. A man cheats on his wife and is caught, while another plays outside of his marriage and is not brought to task. One resident is homosexual, yet falls in love with a woman, and both are frustrated by their emotions. The reality of dying is faced with dignity and grace by a man and his lady friend. A nervous young couple attends their first dance. An abused woman struggles for the safety of her children and herself. Several residents find true love, although their individual journeys are not smooth.
