Hanna Gaikis [13] and her mother have moved from their cramped basement apartment. When Mrs. Gaikis is offered her original job back as restaurant manager at Mosquito Creek Inn, the inn's owner also provides the widow and her daughter an outlying log cabin, once the home of the foreman for Grant Ranch. However, during her first nights in the cabin, Hanna has haunting dreams. While researching material for a school assignment, Hanna and Stephen Anderlund [13] find artifacts buried beneath the log cabin that only lead to more questions. As the young detectives band together to search further, they stumble onto a murder mystery that dates back to the founding of their town - with the legendary White Buffalo in Hanna's dreams - leaving the club members more challenging clues.
