AUDREY (Illustrated)

AUDREY is an orphan, a strange, dreamy slip of a girl, the protégé of Marmaduke Haward, a young Virginian patrician of the early 18th century. Half child, half dryad that she is, she comes to be the rival of the famous beauty, Evelyn Byrd, for Haward's love. The story is in the nature of pure romance, and equally fulfills the artistic temperament of Mary Johnston's earlier work, "To Have and To Hold".
