Introduction

NOTE: You can save the 99¢ purchase price for this e-book simply by doing what I did: (a) reading and researching all the freebie literature re downloading to Kindle and Nook via the Amazon website and the Barnes & Noble website, respectively, (b) spending months actually doing multiple different uploads, along with (c) visiting various websites of famous e-pubbing authors like J.A. Konrath and Dean Wesley Smith just to name two, or even by visiting me, a not-yet-famous author, at my web presence at LivingTheDreamPublishing.blogspot.com and (d) don’t forget to read all the rules and regs of the Kindle Boards’ various sites.

Or you can buy this quick digest of what I’ve read and researched and learned and put together all in one spot within these 113 pages (at least when in MSWord version).

This is also a good addendum to my e-book A Copyediting Checklist for Novelists, particularly see those subjects discussed under the TIPS FOR AUTHORS section (see below).

First, a definition for any newbies. “Indie-published” is a common shorthand term for “Independently-published” replacing the old more stigmatized “self-published” phrase. Obviously, this means foregoing the traditional publishing route with agents, editors and publishing houses and instead becoming your own gatekeeper/clearinghouse, whether you hire others to help you along the way or not.

Second, a clarification. I have only Indie-published e-books using Amazon and the online Barnes & Noble. Therefore my works remain digital at present.

Third, a caveat or two. (1) My knowledge is by no means complete. I am still learning. I only use two venues (Amazon and B&N) and only as to e-books as of this writing. This handbook does not replace reading all the free introductory materials found online within Amazon’s KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), the various Kindle Boards and B&N’s PubIt!. Or prohibit you from using Smashwords or any other program to download e-books. (2) I am a one-woman shop, doing it all myself, with the exception of one cover I sought out a professional artist for. You may wish to hire more help than I did, and that is fine. Just know up front that my route is more self-contained.
