One Hand Clapping is the second book of a series (the first book is titled, Majesty). Kitty begins a new life in Kansas City in the 1920's after fleeing Russia as a teenager. She and her black partner, James, build their baking business into a corporate leader.
Meanwhile, having left home to join the fight in World War I, Kitty's brother, Joseph, is ignorant of his sister's fate and remains in Russia after the revolution. He bristles at the Bolsheviks' growing power, is disgusted with Stalin's iron fist, and scuffles with a society that has little tolerance for free-thinking individualism.
Is there a chance the siblings' paths will ever cross? Not likely...and only if one or the other does something drastic. Neither is even sure the other still lives, and if so, in what corner of the world?
Six decades of intrigue, and totally different experiences, push brother and sister to polar opposites on the social scale. Find out what happens.
