Roughly 300 years have passed since the enactment of the Integration Act, a worldwide law prohibiting marriage and mating between people of the same race. While early implementation of the Act was met with violent opposition, it currently faces no more opposition than bureaucratic questions of necessity and academic questions of relevancy. The only vestiges of race left are the Purebreeds, rebels who live in enclaves outside of mainstream society and perpetuate what remains of their respective races.
It is in this world that Conrad Jackson and Helen Fellows wish to get married. As they soon find out, though, the Integration Act may have more effect on their lives than just keeping the Purebreeds at bay.
