Archie and Lucy are in love and want to get married. In order to bribe Lucy's step-father, Professor Braddock, to consent to the marriage, Archie finances the purchase of the Green Mummy. But before the mummy can be safely delivered to the professor, it is stolen, a murder is committed, and the rest of the book revolves around tracking down the thief and murderer. The ending is a rousing and satisfying wrap-up of all the loose ends.
