Artists and scientists discover humanity with every enlightened thought. Eighteen-year-old Cavan Anstruther is an artist who would rather forget that science exists. His scientist father disappeared ten years ago because of his controversial theory within the science of fairies. Cavan lives in the era of the Great War, which was started in large part by his father’s turn of the 20th century revelation known worldwide as the “Anstruther Heresy”. The human belief that fairies were no more than insects to be used as pest control and house pets for fine ladies, was shaken by the indisputable evidence in the lost journal of Dr. Hermius Anstruther. Lost, until 1918.
Cavan is launched into the world of truth and mystery when he is given his father’s journal. With his friend Jules and newfound love, Sonia, Cavan pursues his father’s original quest for the truth of humanity’s origin. Journeying from Providence, Rhode Island to Ecuador, the three adventurers face their fears and death itself at the hands of a world out to stop them from ever breaking the greatest silence of all – where humanity came from.
The novel Broken Silences is an adventure through a world much like or own in 1918 with a few notable exceptions; The United States is ruled by a monarchy and is called the North American Empire, fairies are a primate subspecies as common as sparrows, and the First World War is being fought over the morality of one man’s scientific theory that makes Darwin look conservative. Caught in the midst of this is that same theorist’s son, Cavan Anstruther. Readers will follow this college freshman through his own words and his father’s journal discovering the truth about both their lives. As the world tries to keep the truth silent, Cavan is destined to break those silences.
