THE TOUCHSTONE is the first novel published by Edith Wharton. The story follows Stephen Glennard, a young man in desperate need of money in order to marry. Glennard had once been pursued by Margaret Aubyn, a famous writer (now deceased) and still has her passionate love letters. Glennard soon sells her letters, but finds himself troubled at building a future marriage on a betrayal.
