The Ascent of the Nation-State

Christopher Chivvis presents a new approach to analyzing modern global politics by juxtaposing contemporary forms of government with the "nation-state" blueprint used in Greek and Roman times. Using examples from the vulnerable Spanish government during the Reformation to Woodrow Wilson's ill-fated League of Nations, Chivvis shows how the definition of "state" is adaptable and very much subject to change.
