No More Yellow Buses

Diagnosed with autism at a time when few even know the term, six-year-old Eddie Fugate is committed to the Orient State Institute, a sprawling “farm” in rural Ohio that is home to five thousand mentally disabled residents of all ages. Naturally inclined to mischief, Eddie soon captures the attention of Susan Armstrong, a young worker who sees that Eddie possesses special gifts--not supernatural gifts but everyday gifts possessed in super-abundance. With determination and Susan’s help, Eddie pursues the simplest of dreams. What he wants is to be like everyone else, nothing more. Those he meets along the way can either help him or get out of the way as he forges his own unique life of independence and connectedness.
