The First Overland Trip To California

Forty Years before Fremont made his expedition to the Pacific, Sylvester Pattie and his son set off trapping up the Missouri River. They made their way through Santa Fe and the Southwest to the Pacific. Pattie is the first American Buried at San Diego, and his son ended up in a Spanish Prison. This is a brief account of the journey.
