The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy

THE WOODLANDERS follows the lives of several English country folk of the village of Little Hintock, home to the beautiful Grace Melbury. Grace is betrothed to her childhood sweetheart, Giles, but her father demands she marry the well-born Edred, a doctor who soon proves himself unfaithful and undeserving of Grace.
