The Sign

As Duane Foster is pulled from his hiding place by Control Officers he fervently prays that his brother Jason and Jason’s pregnant wife, Rebekah, make it back to the safety of the confinement center. It doesn’t take the Control Officers long to discover that Duane is an unmarked dissident from the Free Presbyterian Confinement Center, believed to be involved in underground activity. While in custody, Duane recalls the events of the past three and a half years: the nuclear exchange, the earthquakes, and the tent cities where terrified populations of the world had hunkered while society was turned upside down. He remembers the awesome night when the huge brilliant orbs descended upon a chaotic planet and a commanding “Fear not” was followed by a dire message not to receive a mark for the purpose of buying or selling (Revelation 14: 6-12). He recalls watching with sadness as neighbors and friends receive a permanent invisible ID number before leaving the camps to resume their lives in an altered world—a world where government is now global, religion is inclusive, and The WORD stands for World Order through Religious Discipline. Those refusing to accept an ID are given twenty-four hours to report to assigned confinement centers housed in Free Churches. No cooperation-no assistance. The Sign is a story of faith, hope, and love as seen through the eyes of incarcerated Christian survivors in a hostile world awaiting the return of their Lord.
