The Flathead Indians

Little is commonly known about Flathead American-Indian culture outside of the area of Montana to which the tribe was relegated by the U.S. government over a century ago. Though Flathead society is continually changing, spurred by migration, the acquisition of horses, and encounters with white civilization and Christianity, traditions, such as the presence of shamans (men and women who display special powers of hearing or sight), remain important.
