Dissent is the most valuable and unappreciated commodity on the market. Some people won't go along with any system, no matter what it is. The race is a ring with a couple of degrees missing, like a pressurewasher that can never be closed. That's why we didn't freeze into a beehive or anthill back in prehistory somewhere. They're why. An artist in this society, unless he's been bought out or bought in and therefore is none, is a hole-and-corner guy; metaphorically at least, and probably literally as well. And no bio that pretends otherwise is any use to describe what he is and does. Frost says a true artist would have his sixty-year-old mother scrubbing stone steps on her hands and knees in all kinds of weather sooner than work at anything but his art.
