The book also traces the lives and moral struggles of her husband and sons and so was very interesting Set in the period before the Protestant Reformation, it provides an interesting portrait of the Emperor Maximilian 1459-1519 and the problem of Moslem corsairs. However, the story itself is fictional and illustrates a period rather than a course of historical events. We have enjoyed a number of Charlotte Yonge books and despite the lack of strong historical content consider this one of her best
