ABOUT THE BOOK

In his rise to fame as an extraordinary golf player, Eldrick Tiger Woods has spent years hearing the words You the man! on and off golf courses. Tiger grew up watching his father, Earl, play golf and eventually took up the sport himself. Since the start of his career in 1996, Tiger has won 95 tournaments, including Masters Tournaments, PGA Championships, U.S. Open Championships, and Open Championships. In 2001, Tiger became the first person ever to hold all four of those major championships at once. He has more career major wins and PGA tour wins than any other active golf player. (Tigerwoods.com, About Tiger Woods)

Few will contest the claim that Tiger is a great golf player. However, his career lately has been marred by scandal. In November 2009, Tigers life went into a tailspin. First, reports emerged that he was having an extramarital affair with a nightclub manager. Then, Tiger crashed his car into a fire hydrant near his home in California. Reports said that Tigers then-wife smashed the back of the window allegedly in order to get him out of the car, though many believe it was because of the affair.

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK

In 1986, Tiger got a new coach, local professional golfer John Anselmo. With Anselmos assistance, Tiger worked diligently and it paid off in a series of wins. He participated in more than two dozen local tournaments for youth and won all of them.

In 1991 and 1992, Tiger won the annual USGA Junior Championship. This feat resulted in an invitation to complete in the Los Angeles Open, a pro tournament. He was only in the 10th grade at the time. Many wondered how Tiger would react to the immense pressure. He displayed his calm, collected nature and his amazing skill on the course. By the end of the first round of that tournament, he had over 3,000 fans following him.

During this time (the early 90's), Tiger was going through a major growth spurt. By the 1993 USGA Junior Championship, he was 61 and just under 150 pounds. He was dealing with the aches and pains of being a growing boy. His new coach, Butch Harmon, managed to keep Tiger on a fitness and weightlifting routine that allowed him to keep his swing straight.
