Written by a Southern sympathizer (and a minister!) in 1864, this book purports to justify slavery through Biblical interpretation. This a remarkable window into the mind of a religious man denying any problem with the enslavement of his fellow man. Here is an example of the slant this author takes with a Northern white woman interviewing a slave:
"But, would you not rather be free, as we are, so that you could go where you please, and when you please?"
"Don't know, Missus, color'd folks han't got white folk's ways, no how; we wouldn't know how to 'have ourselves; we too ignunt."
