This book is unashamedly about how African descendant communities have been sustained by the commitment and service of unsung women of faith and love. As caretakers in the community they in many ways created a climate of mutual friendship and appreciation of the things that make living possible. They provided self-esteem and self-respect for the sake of establishing a successful, effective environment and spawning empowerment in their communities. Their good deeds stemmed from their hearts and souls. They provided care for the sick and food for the hungry. They also made their homes a safe hearth for many young people; they didn’t have to hang in the streets looking for something to do. These women contributed resources for growth and development, not only for their own children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, but also for other children who crossed their paths. At the core of their efforts, moreover, they were aware and responsive to God.
