The original publishers of the this edition have dealt handsomely with Rabelais and Sir Thomas Urquhart. They invited a very distinguished French artist, Mons. L. Chalon, to paint a series of illustrations, which have been reproduced by Dujardin. The originals were exhibited at the Cercle Artistique, in the Rue Volnay, Paris, where they were awarded a First Medal.
