Paul McCartney's music is part of the sonic tapestry that is modern culture - and there's never been anyone quite like him. His life began ordinarily enough. He was born June 18, 1942, the son of a cotton merchant (who moonlighted as a musician) and a nurse. James Paul McCartney grew up in lower middle-class Liverpool, England. His family wasn't poor, but they were far from wealthy. Young Paul was drawn to music at an early age, learning a bit of piano from his father and taking trumpet lessons. Then came the advent of rock and roll - out went the trumpet, in came the guitar. The teenage Paul eagerly embraced the raucous American sounds filtering from the radio.
MEET THE AUTHOR
L.D. Meagher is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster with more than 40 years experience in local and network radio and television. He spent more than 20 years at CNN as a writer, news editor, news anchor, reporter, online book reviewer and essayist. His work has been honored with the Emmy, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow awards, as well as awards from the AP Broadcasters. Meagher is co-author of the novel The Curse Of Cain (Forge Books, 2005). He is a former member of the American Federation of Musicians and a former professional musician. A native of Indiana, Meagher is a graduate of Wabash College and studied at the University of Tulsa College of Law. He lives in northern Georgia.

Wings at the Speed of Sound was the band's fourth straight number-one album. It also gave other members of Wings a chance to take center stage. Guitarists Denny Laine and Jimmy McCullough provided lead vocals on a few of the tracks, as did drummer Joe English and Linda McCartney. Laine and McCullough also have writing credits on the album. However, both hit singles from the album were written by Paul, firmly establishing him as one of the dominant hit-makers of the 1970s.
During The Beatles era, Paul McCartney was considered the "cute" one. It wasn't just because his cherubic good looks and sweet singing voice drove the girls mad. Lennon, they claimed, gave Beatles music its bite while Paul made it commercial. That label clung to McCartney throughout his solo career, as well. Paul makes no excuses, and admits "Silly Love Songs" was his response to those critics.
