ABOUT THE BOOK
After taking his home country by storm with the Millennium trilogy, Swedish author Stieg Larsson went on to capture the imagination of the rest of the world. Hardcore fans, of which there are thousands-maybe even more-need no further introduction. However, even if you haven't read his books, you have probably heard of them anyway, as successful movie versions have already been created. The latest release, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, specifically the American version with Daniel Craig top billing as Mikael Blomkvist, has proven itself a box office hit.
Stieg Larsson may have known that his books would be successful, but he probably had no idea about the actual magnitude their fame would achieve. After all, with only three books published out of the several he had in mind, he has already gained worldwide acclaim.

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK
Stieg Larsson was born in the northern part of Sweden in 1954, in an area known as Skelleftehamn, and spent most of his childhood years in a town called Umea. Both of his parents moved nearly 400 miles away to work in Stockholm. Initially, Stieg had to stay in Norrland, and then he eventually moved to Norsjo with his grandparents. He spent so much time away from his parents that, although he knew who they were, he did not have a close relationship with them.
In an interview with The New York Times, Stieg's father, Erland, explained that Stieg joined his immediate family in 1962. His brother Joakim had already been born by this time. Erland also added that Stieg had always shown interest in writing, which became increasingly evident as he clattered away on the typewriter that they had given him. In fact, they had to rent another room for him to type in, as the noise had started becoming unbearable for the rest of the family. The days and nights that Stieg spent typing may have been a telling sign of things to come.
