Muslims in India

The final section, shorter than the previous four, consists
of two essays that deal with the challenge of Hindustan and
the fierce battle over the representation of the history of
Hindu-Muslim relations that is so central to understanding
the place of Muslims and Islam in the Hindustan imagination.
It seeks to offer alternate visions of Hindu-Muslim relations
rooted in people’s everyday realities that can counter hegemonic
notions of Hindus and Muslims as necessarily separate
from and opposed to each other.
