Kate Westhanger is brought up on "Crime Street" by her uncle, and furnishes the brains by which the "gang" is able to perform many brilliant robberies.

She loves her work as an art. Michael Pretherston. a detective, knows her game, but keeps his own counsel. Through Kate's cleverness a train load of gold is mysteriously spirited away.

Michael, trying to solve the mystery, is captured. Kate, disgusted with the sordid motives of her accomplices and awakened by the fact that Michael prefers death to dishonesty, for the first time sees life in a true light and a romance follows.
