A story of Cornwall with the scene laid in both England and Pennsylvania, with a young hero suffering under the stigma that his grandfather had fought against his own country and was killed as a traitor. How he overrides the prejudices and lives to free his family name, make a fortune and win the hand of a beautiful woman who is the granddaughter of the enemy of his family.

The story is told in the four hundred pages and is an extremely readable book. Taking the hero from his fifteenth year gives good opportunity to depict some stirring school scenes and spirited games, a fight with smugglers, etc. All in all, a great story.
