A girl with severe anxiety and depression fights to survive among the modern tribes of suburbia using ancient hunter/gatherer techniques, until she is befriended by an 85-year-old WWII vet who works at a bagel shop.
After Felicia Walcott's anthropologist mother takes her own life, Felicia is forced to survive among the modern tribes of suburbia using outmoded Hunter/Gatherer skills. Dodging tribes of tribes of tiger-striped hiphuggers and apathetic anarchists almost brings Felicia to her wit's end. Then she meets Orville. Orville T. Schmeltnick, is an 85 year-old bagel chef, whose wife is succumbing to her own mental illness.
With Orville’s care and support, Felicia slowly adapts to contemporary life. But just as she begins to find her place among the modern tribes, she unearths a discovery from her past that threatens to shatter everything she knows about the world as she knows it.
"SCHMEAR THERAPY is a rare gem—thoughtful, funny, and intelligent. Filled with quirky, yet entirely believable characters. P. Cavan Brady is a natural storyteller and a talented writer. I enjoyed Schmear Therapy tremendously."
—National Book Award winning author, Pete Hautman
