The elderly Lord Ormont is seeking a woman in his life. In his travels to Madrid he meets the younger Aminta Farrell. She comes from poor beginnings. Despite her lowly birth, Lord Ormont, although disappointed still proposes to her. Aminta accepts his proposal, despite his age. They travel for a period of time before eventually returning to London. In London, Ormont refuses to introduce Aminta to society as his wife.And thus begins the tale. In short, a really good read.
