This book is about the beauty that is Minnesota and the harsh realities that are associated with growing up in a dysfunctional family. The book you are about to read is the story of a child raised by two distinctly different parents. One, a father that betrayed the needed love of a father and son by beating him for years as a very young child into his adolescence, and the other, the nature that saved him. I wrote this book to not be about me, but to be about anyone that reads it. This is because everyone should be able to find a part of the story that is part of their shared life.
The story begins deep in the northern woods of Minnesota, in a time when people and roads were few, and the vast forest requiring hard labor before giving up one square inch of its beauty. When the nature of Minnesota was still in its pristine state of existence, sugar sand roads began encroaching upon the ever present forest at its fringe.
It is not a story of blame, but one of understanding of where the origins of abuse begin. It is also about about surviving it, and by finding something beautiful in anything with the mentor that is nature.
