Pomegranate is a novel about the importance of family, of friends, and of faith. Set in the farming communities of Southern New Mexico and Far West Texas, and across the border from the horrific violence caused by the Mexican drug war, the story follows the year-long journey of three women connected to each other through ties of blood and friendship. Sydney and Erica are cousins, part of the illustrious Navarro family. Mia, an only child, a Chicana feminist and scholar, has been their best friend since childhood in the small town of San Martin.
But on a recent New Year’s Eve, their lives crack open like a pomegranate—exposing seeds of disappointment, secrecy, and betrayal. For the first time in many years, these women and their families are once again living close to each other and their lives are changed forever when the past enters into the present.
