Assumptions is a story about Marie Brewster, a young woman determined to make a difference to the world through both her nursing and yoga practice. She is beautiful and poised, with a quick wit and an extensive professional network. Having just left a position as a staff nurse to take the “cush” job in Quality Management has been stressful. Comments of going to the dark side and being called a suit are familiar. Even Granny calls her a sell out! Add dealing with the fallout of pictures surfacing on the Internet and it’s no wonder why being assigned to some reporter as his hospital escort is not high on her priority list.
Bill McMahon is everything Marie despises in a man. He is a reporter. Of course he’s also gorgeous and charming, but she is doing what she can to overlook that because reporters cannot be trusted. They jump to conclusions regardless of fact and resort to shady tactics to get a story.
Rina Jackson is Marie’s best friend and office mate. She keeps Marie grounded. Okay, Rina’s a nurse who wears stiletto heels to work and refers to cooking show hosts by first name like personal friends. But this relationship helps our heroine stay balanced. Really. In fact, it’s Rina who gets a copy of Bill’s Pulitzer Prize winning article and eventually persuades Marie to read it.
When another woman ends up in our journalist’s bed,the reader still likes Bill. Who knew? Now Marie must face her demons and learns she’s not the nonjudgmental yogi she always thought she was. And our unlikely hero may teach her more than any yoga class ever could.
