Lilith by George MacDonald

LILITH follows the story of Mr. Vane, who owns a library which seems to be haunted by the ghost of its former librarian, Mr. Raven, who appears in the form of a raven. Raven convinces Vane to follow him into an alternate world, where he soon encounters the beautiful and mysterious Lilith, who enlists his aid on a worthy quest.
