THE DECAMERON is a witting and entertaining collection of tales by 14th-century Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio. Set during the time of the Black Death, a group of seven young women and three young men flee Florence to an abandoned villa outside the city. As they wait for the plague to subside, they each tell a different story nightly. Widely read in Europe, THE DECAMERON probably served as an inspiration for Geoffrey Chaucer's CANTERBURY TALES.
