My Life as a Truck

Johnny Davis could praise and curse that truck, all in the same breath. The year was 1936 and Johnny had just picked up his last check from the West Texas Drilling Company. The company had gone bust after drilling four straight dry holes and the entire country was in the midst of the Great Depression. Jobs were few and far between for a young roughneck. He decided he might as well head for California and try his luck out there. Another driller on the rig, Bob Donnley, asked Johnny if he could tag along. They loaded their meager belongings in the back of Johnny's 1935 Ford Pickup and headed west.
