Religious Beliefs, Superstitions and Wittgenstein

Wittgenstein's religious point of view is generally seen as having twin aspects: religious beliefs are inexpressible, and that they have their own form of life. Notwithstanding the apparent differences in these aspects, there seems to be no dichotomy between them if we review them in the context of the development of his philosophy of religion and language. This book critically expounds Wittgenstein's notion of religious beliefs through interpreting various concepts of his philosophy of language. Taking a close look at the lack of foundation of religion, it deals with anti-scientific treatment of superstitions and miracles, and tries to abridge the alleged cleavage between Wittgenstein's acceptance of mystical experience and his rejection of privacy of experience.
