About the Author
ADDISON IRVING BACHELLER [1859-1950] was an journalist and novelist. In 1882, he graduated from St. Lawrence University. He founded the Bacheller Syndicate, the first U.S. newspaper syndicate, through which he introduced such authors as Stephen Crane, Joseph Conrad, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Rudyard Kipling. In 1898, he was Sunday Editor of the New York World. From about 1900, he devoted much of his time to book writing. During World War I, he reported war news from France.
