Anne of Green Gables

Red-headed Anne Shirley is accidentally sent to Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who had asked for an orphan boy. She endears herself to them through her mishaps, and they decide to keep her. She has many adventures on Prince Edward Island, with her best friend Diana Barry and other friends at school, where she excels. She has a hard time forgiving Gilbert Blythe for teasing her on the first day of school, but eventually realizes she can't hate him forever.
