Sunshine and Shadow Afghan

This warm and richly textured baby afghan pattern in three shades of any soft worsted weight yarn features a fascinating arrangement of dimensional shells. It is reversible, with a very different chevron pattern that emerges on the back. The pattern uses American crochet terms and is intended for the intermediate crocheter. Instructions are included for both a baby afghan and a full-size throw, but the pattern can be used to make an afghan of any size.

Measurements: The baby afghan shown is 30 x 35 inches. For a full-size afghan (approximately 45 x 63 inches), allow 5 skeins of MC, and 4 skeins each of colors A and B. The afghan can be made to any size by increasing the length of the starting chain and crocheting additional rows of the pattern.

Yarn used for sample: Caron Simply Soft, 6 ounces, 170 grams, 315 yards, 288 meters per skein. 3 skeins White (main color), 2 skeins each of Berry Blue (color A) and Sunshine (color B).
Hook size H or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 2 shells in pattern = 3.5 inches wide
